ABOUT ARTIST
Following an early interest in photography, Yama attended the Arles International Photography Festival and remained in France, inspired to begin painting. His first solo exhibition of paintings was in Arles and he has gone from strength to strength since then, though taking a break after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant accident which deeply affected him. He has travelled extensively and exhibited worldwide.
ABOUT ARTWORK
The artist often takes inspiration from elemental energy, creating large works out of tiny gestures, sometimes in the shape of trees. Here the artist explores the connection between cosmic rays and human genetics, constructing abstracted forms that are indicative of both. Cosmic Ray has a hypnotic quality, inviting the viewer to transcend their physical body and consider the fabric that weaves together space, matter and everything in between.
